Summary
Working Party on Packaging + Environment
(Arbeitsgemeinschaft Verpackung +
Umwelt e.V. - AGVU)
An association of leading companies that manufacture,
use and recycle packaging
Representation of interests and information centre
Specialist association for a functioning
closed loop economy in the field of packaging
The AGVU represents the common interests of its members
from the retail trade, the consumer goods industry, the packaging
industry and the recycling industry in the areas of environmental
protection and the closed loop economy. It has acquired the
legal status of a professional association that is officially
recognised as existing to safeguard the interests of its members,
and specialises in well-functioning, economic and environmentally
sound packaging and packaging systems.
With the reorganisation of the AGVU and its acquisition of
a new legal form, an association has been created for the
first time in Germany that brings together the interests of
the entire value added chain for the product, packaging -
from the raw material through each of the processing stages
and sales procedures up to recycling. The mission and task
of the AGVU corresponds with the legal situation created out
of the closed loop economy law.
United we stand - packaging and the environment. Our name
- "Working Party on Packaging + Environment" - is
one we take literally. We concentrate, albeit in a comprehensive
manner, on the subject of packaging.
As an industrial association, the members of the AGVU are
striving with self-confidence for the further development
of high environmental standards for packaging and for the
lifting of unnecessary burdens on the industry and consumers.
It is the aim of the AGVU to see the abolition of special
provisions such as local authority packaging taxes, compulsory
deposits and refillable quotas. In their place, the AGVU wants
the further improvement, both ecologically and economically,
of the closed loop economy for packaging, which is based on
private enterprise.
